Lipitor Side Effects

While Lipitor definitely lowers cholesterol, you should strongly consider and evaluate Lipitor side effects before usage.

Statins (Lipitor belongs to statin group of drugs) have already killed over 50 people with rhabdomyolysis, and are affecting over 6,000 per year with nerve damage. However, statins continue to be the most prescribed class of drugs, despite the data concerning possible side effects. Lipitor is the most prescribed of all the statin drugs and the number one selling drug in the world

Ever notice at the end of a Lipitor t. v. commercial the fast talking announcer quietly mentions possible side effects in a way that leads you to believe they are rare and uncommon? They do this not because of a concern over your wellbeing, it’s because the FDA requires this disclosure in every commercial on the radio, television or in the small print of a full page magazine ad.

While you might think there may only be a "few" cases of Lipitor side effects, have a look at the official website of Lipitor (www.Lipitor.com) and see what the manufacturer has to say about Lipitor side effects.

One very bothersome lipitor side effect is the development of abnormal liver function, which is not obvious and can only be diagnosed by a liver enzyme test. The T.V. ads say “liver problems can be detected by a simple liver test”. Simple for whom? Do you really want to take a liver enzyme test every six months? And what about the lab and office visit cost and time involved. These ads over simplify the word simple.

Another Lipitor side effect has to do with " muscle issues". The Lipitor website specifically mentions this dangerous Lipitor side effect . Here is what they sayt "rare cases of rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria have been reported". These cares are only rare when they affect others. If you experience the kind of probles to you care if they are rare?

Here is one related experience of muscle isues and side effects from a Lipitor user:

In November 2002, after 7 weeks of taking this medication (Lipitor), I had severe pain in both hands … I have had severe knee swelling and pain and could not maneuver the stairs. Thank God that cleared up with a little discomfort left on one knee. My main problem is the pain and swelling in the hands, finger or fingers, and wrists going up into the forearms. … I don't have any confidence in my GP … Where do I turn for help? I keep wondering if I will ever have the use of my hands back to do all the normal things I always took for granted.

After reading what people have to say about Lipitor side effects, you may want to refer back to what Pfizer says in the official website about Lipitor side effects:

"Lipitor is generally well tolerated. The side effects associated with Lipitor are usually mild and tend to go away. The most common reported side effects are gas, constipation, stomach pain, and indigestion. Lipitor has an excellent safety profile at all doses.**" What about muscle pain and liver concerns?

Other well known Lipitor side effects impact the digestive, respiratory, nervous, musculoskeletal systems, as well as skin and appendages.

While not as common as others, other Lipitor side effects impact the urogenital system, cardiovascular system, metabolic and nutritional disorders, hemic and lymphatic system, and their are even more cases of several others .

The Bottom Line is Certainly Clear. Lipitor Does Have Many Serious Side Effects

Even with all these Lipitor side effects, you may believe Lipitor or another statin  is a drug that you must use to lower your cholesterol. As you know total cholesterol levels above 200 mg/dl increase your risks of heart attack and stroke and if you are above 240 mg/dl your risks increase dramatically.

It is also a well known fact that cholesterol build up in your arteries will result in the blockage of arteries, raising your blood pressure, restricting blood flow which may ultimately lead to heart attack or stroke so of course you want to minimize your risk of such events.
